My Size

Find your correct bra size

The best way to find out your bra size is to try on different styles to determine what feels most comfortable and supportive and gives you the best shape. Our bras come in different styles and shapes and the measurement chart is provided as a guide only.

What's your band size?

Your band size is your ribcage measurement. It is the numeric measurement eg 32, 34, 36 etc

1. Place a tape measure around your body just under your bust
2. Make sure the tape measure is level by using a mirror or with the help of a friend
3. Ensure the tape measure is pulled tightly around your body
4. The table below will show you what back size you are. For example, if the underband measurement on the tape measure is 34" your back size will be 38.

What's your cup size?

Your cup size can change several times during pregnancy or breastfeeding and it is important you are measured frequently

1. Place a tape measure around your bust and this time keep it fairly loose
2. Using your band size in the column on the left follow the row across until you get to your measurement and this will determine your cup size

Breast Feeding

Why breastfeed?

It is now known that breastfeeding is the best and healthiest way to feed your baby. Giving your baby breast milk will really be giving them the best possible start in life, and breastfeeding has many benefits for you, too. Benefits for your baby

  • Breast milk contains antibodies not present in formula milk that help your baby’s immune system fight infections.
  • Breast milk is easy for your baby to digest and the vitamins and minerals are more easily absorbed by your baby’s body.
  • Breast milk contains special types of fats important for the development of your baby’s brain, eyes and nervous system.
  • Breastfeeding reduces the likelihood of your baby suffering from allergies.

Benefits for you

  • Breastfeeding can help protect you from breast cancer and other cancers.
  • Breastfeeding helps your body recover more quickly after the birth than if you bottle feed, as its helps your uterus contract and shrink back to its normal size.
  • The hormone oxytocin, that is released during breastfeeding, helps you feel relaxed and maternal.
  • Breastfeeding is the simplest way to feed - its free! and there’s no need for any equipment or sterilising, making night time feeding more relaxed

How to breastfeed

Although breastfeeding is a natural process it sometimes takes a little bit of practice before you master it successfully! If you experience difficulties breastfeeding at first don’t be tempted to give up - ask the midwives at the hospital or your community midwife or health visitor. Most hospitals do have a breastfeeding councillor who is on hand to help. Once home your midwife or health visitor will be able to tell you about your local breastfeeding clinic.

Feeds can take anytime from 5 minutes to an hour! It’s a great opportunity for you to relax and put your feet up for some much deserved rest! (Relaxing also helps your milk supply)

The first few days

After the birth your breasts produce a milk called colostrum. It is full of protein and is rich in antibodies to help build your baby’s immune system.

After 4-5 days your milk gradually becomes mature breast milk. This is made up of two parts. The first part is foremilk, a thin and watery liquid to quench your baby's thirst. After this comes the hindmilk, which follows on naturally and is full of nutrients and satisfies your baby’s hunger.

As your baby grows the nutritional composition of your breast milk will change to meet your baby’s needs.

My Maternity Bra

An Emily Maternity bra is made for your comfort during pregnancy. It’s usually around your 4th month that you will look into getting a maternity bra but don’t wait if it hurts.

There are many advantages that you will get from your emily maternity bra. Your bra will have 4-6 hook and eye adjusters to accommodate your changing size. Always fit on the tightest fitting so you will have room to grow throughout the pregnancy.

The cups should feel comfortable and you should not be spilling over the top. If your cup size grows beyond an E or F cup, you may want to consider one of our soft-wired maternity bras as this will give you more support. It’s important you don’t wear your regular wired bra as the rigid wires can create pressure on the development of your milk supply.

My Nursing Bra

An Emily nursing bra gives you the greatest comfort and support while nursing your child. You will need to start thinking about buying your nursing bra from around 36 weeks, at which stage you should be the correct size.

Your Bra is fitted with many essential features that enable your nursing period to be as comfortable as possible.

  • Your Bra comes with easy to open and close clips on the drop down cup.
  • The bra also comes with natural breathable linings. All the Emily bras have 100% cotton linings.
  • The Bras are also fitted with 4-6 hook and eye adjusters to accommodate your changing size. Fit on the loosest fitting so you will be able to adjust the hook and eye as your rib cage returns to your natural shape after.

When buying your bra you will need to consider that you will need enough space for a breast pad and to accommodate your milk filling up your cup between feeds.

If your cup size grows beyond an E or F cup, you may want to consider one of our soft-wired nursing bras as this will give you more support.

The Emily Lingerie underwire bras use flexible lightweight titanium wire so they can adjust to the body's changes when pregnant or breastfeeding. Hard or rigid underwires have not been used as they may restrict your milk duct system. The wire we use in our bras is longer than that in a regular underwired bra. This means that bra is wider at the sides to avoid the wire coming into contact with your breast tissue.
